Nymphenburg Porcelain, Rococo Service, Floral Platter, 26,5 cm / 10.43 Inch

Nymphenburg porcelain, produced in Bavaria from around the middle of the 18th centuryuntil the present day. The first factory was established in 1747 at the castleof Neudeck, outside Munich, by Maximilian III Joseph, elector of Bavaria. The wares produced here aresometimes called“Neudeck – Nymphenburg.” In 1761 the factory was moved toNymphenburg, on the outskirts of Munich, where it still operates.

The fame of Nymphenburg rests on itsfigures, particularly those in the Rococo stylemodeled between 1754 and 1763 by Franz Anton Bustelli. Bustelli was succeeded asmodellmeisterbyDominikus Auliczek, whointroduced theneoclassical style at Nymphenburg.

The serviceRococo was the first “Electoral court service” created by the PorzellanManufaktur Nymphenburg and is still regarded as one of the most revolutionaryservice designs of the 18th century. Dating from Franz Anton Bustelli’s periodof creativity, the service is adorned with rocaille reliefs, ornately shapedhandles and grips, as well as true-to-life knobs modelled in the shape of alemon, fig, or artichoke. In the early 20th century, the service Rococo was reissued as a fish dish service. Painted in brilliantshades of red with naturalistic depictions of marine creatures and shells andcomplemented by a perfectly formed lobster as the handle for the tureen lid, itis known as the Mare Nostrum decoration.
