Dancheong is the painted decoration on Korean wooden architecture. Its five colours - blue, white, red, black and yellow - stand for the five directions, and the patterns were meant to protect the building as much as to decorate it. You can see it on the eaves of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.
