An original 10x8" vintage photo from a very large collection of original NASA press photographs that originated from the Apollo 1 Foundation. A NASA employee had originally donated his collection to the foundation (at least a subset and perhaps all appear to have originated from NASA employee and Historian Mitchell R Sharpe). This archive included some images with multiple copies. Most images in this series are in incredibly good condition. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.
Photo Overview
This captivating NASA photograph from June 26, 1969, depicts a medical professional performing an examination on a pigtail monkey candidate for the bio-satellite mission at Hangar S, Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The primate, positioned on a specialized table, is part of a mission to study the effects of extended spaceflight. Intricately designed instruments and a clock in the background accentuate the meticulous preparation for space exploration at the height of the Space Race.
During this era, the study of primates in space was crucial for understanding potential human physiological and psychological responses to long-duration missions, eventually aiding in the historic moon landing. Scientists aimed to gather data that would help ensure the safety and success of future human space expeditions.
