Fantastic group of five original vintage Parts Pups automotive trade/customer magazines dating from 1970–1972, featuring period NAPA advertising, Colorado auto-parts dealer mastheads, pinup photography, cartoons, automotive products and unmistakable early-1970s shop culture.
These approximately 11" x 8.25" publications were distributed through independent automotive parts businesses and customized for the local dealer. Four are marked Rifle Auto Parts, Inc., Rifle, Colorado, while the February 1970 issue is from Glenwood Auto Supply, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Included:
• February 1970 — Glenwood Auto Supply, Glenwood Springs, Colorado
• May 1972 — Rifle Auto Parts, Rifle, Colorado
• August 1972 — Rifle Auto Parts, Rifle, Colorado
• October 1972 — Rifle Auto Parts, Rifle, Colorado
• November 1972 — Rifle Auto Parts, Rifle, Colorado
The covers alone are terrific pieces of period advertising, with NAPA logos and colorful dealer graphics. Inside is an even better snapshot of the era: automotive advertising and repair information mixed with cartoons, jokes and pinup photography aimed squarely at the automotive-shop audience of the period.
Advertising shown includes NAPA, Echlin electrical and fuel-system products, New Britain hand tools and other period automotive parts and equipment. Several issues feature bikini/pinup photography; the October 1972 issue identifies its featured model as Vicki Johnson, while another interior feature identifies Sandy Leland, Miss Florida World.
This is an especially appealing group because the publications remain intact rather than having the advertising or pinup pages removed. Together they make an unusual piece of Colorado automotive, NAPA and early-1970s advertising history.
Each measures approximately 11" x 8.25".
Vintage condition with expected handling, edge/corner wear, light discoloration, marks and other age-related wear. Please review all photographs closely for individual condition.
Sold together as one lot of five original issues.
Excellent crossover material for collectors of vintage NAPA advertising, automobilia, petroliana, Colorado advertising, automotive ephemera, pinup material and 1970s pop culture.
