Murano Glass BeadsPEPE PAGANI
Material:Venetian glassLocation:MuranoIsland, Venice, ItalySurface: ImperfectAs found: lightly cleaned
Imperfect treasures lurk waiting to be found and brought into the light. An Italian architectural salvage company sold a wooden box at sale. In old societies nothing is just destroyed, everything is reclaimed, saved and sold again. They had taken down a very old stables on an estate that had once been used for glassblowing instead; for that estate was on an island of Murano. The name of the artisan from those stables was Giuseppe \"Pepe\" Pagani. The artist formerly known as Pepe Pagani died in 1929. Inside of the box were bottles of unknown chemicals and frit powders, but in a bag were mostly unbroken hollow glass beads. These stunning survivors are for sale to you today, at least 100 years later in their handmade, mouthblown glory. Unlike the machine-made perfect copies of thier beauty made today, these glass beads have tiny bubbles and imperfections that the manufactured modern versions simply do not posses. Running a machine is easy, but mouth-blowing hot glass outside in the humid, salty Mediterraneanheat before 1929? That\'s hard.* * *What you see is what you get.
