Original Vintage May 1969 Prince Kuhio\'s Cafe Restaurant Menu Ala Moana Center Honolulu Hawaii Spencecliff
Prince Kuhio\'s Restaurant operated at Ala Moana Center — opened August 13, 1959 — under Spencecliff Corporation, the Honolulu restaurant empire of brothers Spencer F. Weaver Jr. and Clifton S. Weaver, who started with hot-dog carts in 1939 and formed the company after World War II service. At its peak Spencecliff ran over 50 restaurants, cabarets, coffee shops and snack bars — Queen\'s Surf, Tahitian Lanai, Fisherman\'s Wharf, Coco\'s — with annual sales over $40 million and 1,700 employees. Prince Kuhio\'s is listed beside Spencecliff\'s Ala Moana Coffee Shop and Down Under Bar in the company\'s c.1962 \"Good Eating\" dining guide, and it stood next to the Down Under Bar — remembered as \"the darkest cocktail lounge\" — on the center\'s ground floor, makai side near Sears.
