Market Street Power Plant New Orleans URBAN EXPLORATION Eerie Matted B/W Photo For Sale

Up for sale is a very cool black and white photo of the inside of a long abandoned power plant in New Orleans, Louisiana. Over the last 50 years, this building has become a local favorite of \"urban explorers\". Movies and TV series have been shot there.
The location is not identified on the photo itself but is clearly the interior of the Market Street Power Plant. This very large facility is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, just upstream from the Crescent City Connection bridge and between New Orleans\' Warehouse District and Lower Garment District. When it opened in 1905, it was said to be the largest electrical generating plant in the South. In the 1920s, the plant became part of New Orleans Public Service Inc. (aka NOPSI), which was the predecessor of the current utility provider, Entergy. The coal powered plant remained New Orleans\' only power generator until the 1940s. The plant last produced energy in 1973 and was officially closed in 1984. The vacant structure has been stripped of its equipment and been a canvas for generations of graffiti artists, a refuge for the homeless, and a destination for \"urban explorers\". It has periodically changed ownership, but none of the redevelopment plans have - so far - come to fruition. (The latest plan was announced in 2022, and is still pending.)
The Market Street Power Plant was used in the shooting of the movies Oblivion (2013) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). Episodes of such TV shows as The Magicians, Cloak and Dagger, The Purge, and Into the Badlands were also filmed there. In 2022, a teenage urban explorer tragically fell 50 feet to his death when a support gave way during his descent from the top of the structure.
