Vintage Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Fountain Pen - Telescopic Piston / F Nib

This is a vintage example of Montblanc’s flagship fountain pen, the Meisterstück No.149, believed to date from the 1960s.

One of the most notable features of this pen is its highly collectible telescopic piston filling mechanism.

Vintage 149 models of this period are known for their generous internal ink capacity compared with later versions. Together with the ebonite feed, the pen offers the rich ink flow and distinctive writing character appreciated by enthusiasts of vintage Montblanc fountain pens.

Telescopic Piston Mechanism

The telescopic filling system uses a two-stage extending piston mechanism. As the filling knob is turned, the internal piston assembly extends and retracts in stages.

Compared with the simpler piston construction used on later models, this mechanism has a distinctive operating feel and allows for a generous ink capacity.

Nib & Writing Characteristics

The nib has been replaced with an 18K gold nib and writes approximately as an F (Fine).

The Fine nib produces a controlled, relatively narrow line, making it suitable for everyday writing, notebooks, and business use.

Combined with the vintage construction and ebonite feed, the pen provides the soft and smooth writing character associated with older Montblanc fountain pens.

Design

The pen retains the classic and commanding proportions of the Meisterstück 149, with its substantial barrel and iconic black-and-gold appearance.

The barrel also features an ink-view window, allowing the remaining ink level to be checked easily.

Condition

As this is a vintage pen approximately six decades old, it shows age-related wear and deterioration.

There is a crack near the edge of the cap, and the barrel shows some deformation and discoloration consistent with age.

Despite these cosmetic issues, the important functional components remain usable. The piston filling mechanism operates properly, writing has been tested, and no ink leakage was observed during testing.
