Smithwas a Boston engraver active from the 1810s to the 1870s. He was known for engravings and cartographic works in 19th-century Boston, including a plan of Boston and engravings of Harvard College and historical scenes. He worked with William B. Annin as Annin & Smith, and later with Charles A. Knight and George H. Tappan as Smith, Knight & Tappan
