For your consideration is a nice piece of Maiasaura Hadrosaur leg bone.
Maiasaura (\"good mother dinosaur\") was a flat-headed Hadrosaur. These fast running duck-billed herbivores were among the biggest dinosaurs. Fossilized tracks, bone piles and nesting sites suggest they were herding animals and formed huge nesting colonies. A discovery in 1978 revealed Maiasaura eggs, embryos and juveniles in a nest-like structure near adults, documenting the first known instance of parental and social behavior in dinosaurs.
This specimen was recovered from a private ranch in the Two Medicine Formation of Montanaat a Maiasaura site that was too eroded to construct a complete skeleton. It was identified as Maiasaura and was found with other bones from the same animal. Appropriate collection and preparation methods were used to mitigate damage to the fossils.
All of our Maiasaura bones were obtained from a colleague of Steve Nicklas PhD (founder of Paleo Prospectors).
