Up for sale is a fantastic starter lot of eight (8) original, authentic 1890 N129 "Stars of the Stage" (First Series) tobacco trade cards. These beautiful 19th-century commercial color lithographs were issued by W. Duke, Sons & Co. to promote their famous Honest Long Cut smoking and chewing tobacco.
This unnumbered 25-card set features vibrant portraits of prominent 1890s stage actresses and celebrities in elaborate theatrical costumes and headwear.
Lot Details & Condition:
Quantity: 8 distinct cards from the N129 First Series.
Overall Condition: Mostly Good to Very Good (G-VG) raw condition.
Fronts: The color lithography remains remarkably bright, crisp, and vibrant for being over 135 years old.
Flaws to Note: Seven cards show standard, honest wear for their age (mild edge wear and slightly rounded corners). One card (the actress featuring the red tassel cap/fez) is in Poor condition due to a distinct edge chip/tear along the top border and some surface paper loss.
Backs: Please review the photos to assess the reverse sides of the cards for standard aging, minor staining, or evidence of past scrapbook placement.
