Offered together is a lot of six original antique comic postcards dating approximately 1907–1915. Each card features a colorful humorous illustration with a playful caption and an early divided postcard back.
Included captions:
• “And the clock struck one.”
• “I’m going to strike for a raise.”
• “I get boosted along every little while.”
• “Home was never like this.”
• “I don’t know why people are suspicious of me.”
• “I caught cold.”
The illustrations include early workplace humor, visual puns, domestic comedy and animal imagery. Small series numbers appear on the fronts of the cards.
All six postcards are unused and unposted, with no addresses, postage stamps or written correspondence. They are wonderful examples of early-20th-century humor and would be suitable for postcard collectors, paper-ephemera collections, framed displays, collage, altered books or vintage journal projects.
CONDITION
Antique condition with age-related toning, discoloration, corner and edge wear, light surface marks and occasional minor creasing.
Three cards have pencil lines and numbers drawn on the backs. One of these also has a small metallic star sticker near the stamp box. These markings are shown in the photographs. The remaining backs appear largely clean and unused.
