Lot of 3 vintage postcards of Hotel Pennsylvania, New York City: the Main Lobby, a section of the Main Dining Room, and a view of the hotel on Seventh Avenue opposite Pennsylvania Station. Each is postmarked New York, N.Y., 1929, and each carries a 1¢ green Franklin stamp. The backs advertise \"2200 Rooms with Bath and Radio Reception\" and the Statler chain.
Condition: Well handled and aged, with yellowing, toning, and soiling throughout. The lobby card has a chipped, notched top edge. The dining room card has a surface mark near the upper left and a stain along the lower edge. The stamp on the Seventh Avenue card has a torn corner. Expect creases and edge wear, and please review the photos closely. You receive the three cards shown.
All three were mailed to the same address in Cincinnati, Ohio. The handwritten messages in blue ink appear to be signed \"Wilmoth\" and addressed to a Miss Blanche Wilson, with notes about the trip and coming home. Postal markings include two \"Register or Insure Valuable Mail\" slogan cancels and one \"Notify Correspondents of Change of Address\" slogan cancel.
A nice small set for collectors of New York City, hotel, and travel ephemera, Statler Hotels memorabilia, and postal slogan cancels. The hotel opened in 1919 as one of the largest in the world and was demolished in the 2020s, so these cards carry a bit of lost New York history. They also suit family historians and crafters.
