Large Vintage German Tradesmen Relief Candle
Large German figural pillar candle likely 1960s-70s attributed to Johann Günter candlemaker. Figural relief of traditional craftsman at work. Classic German design with hand-painted finishes: blacksmith, baker, wood-worker, artist, and farrier. Workshop tools, a horse, windows and masonry details extend around the cylinder in two stacked tiers. Approximately 21 inches tall and weighing 21.5 pounds including the attached base plate.
Displayed for many years before being carefully packed away a few years ago. The candle remains unburned, and a pleasant natural beeswax scent was noticeable when I unwrapped it. The small plate beneath the candle has become affixed over time and is included.
Condition
- Unburned, with age and display wear, including rubbing and loss to the applied color and slight dulling of some projecting edges.
- Small ding to the cook\'s hat, shown in the close-up photograph.
- No conservation or restoration has been undertaken. The surface was gently wiped with a barely damn cloth, with no paint transfer observed during cleaning.
- The base plate remains attached and has not been forced free.
- Please examine the photographs for the surface details and condition throughout.
Fulfillment
The candle will be wrapped in archival tissue, then protected with several layers of foam and cushioning to support the projecting relief. It will be packed in a reinforced cardboard box with internal gusseting. Shipping cost reflects the substantial weight and the heavily reinforced packaging required. Ships by FedEx or UPS Ground within 1-2 business days, subject to weather arrangements below. Rates to Alaska and Hawaii differ; please message for a quote. International shipping available through \'s Global Shipping Program. Shipping to USPS PO Box also carries additional cost.
Cool-weather shipment is preferable because wax can soften or deform in heat. We recommend allowing us to review the forecast along the anticipated shipping route and coordinate a delay of a few days with the buyer if significant hot weather is expected.
