Azriel (Zelig) Segal, Israeli, 1933-2015.


Zelig Segal was born in Jerusalem in 1933 and grew up in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood. His mother was the midwife of the settlement in Hebron and his father was a teacher in the "Etz Chaim" Talmud Torah in the Mazkeret Moshe neighborhood. In 1949 he began studying at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and had a workshop in the Hutzot Hayotzer arts and crafts complex.


The main works of Zelig Segal were in the field of design. His works utilized the inventive language of modernist design and minimalist art within the framework of modern Judaica. In the 1990's, he also did abstract painting and Bezalel Institute of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.

Teaching

1964-68 Bezalel Institute of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, directed Department of Gold and Silversmithery.
