LARGE 36” Vtg MCM Lute Player Musician Minstrel Statue Pottery Garden Ornament For Sale

This great vintage statue of a lute player is fresh from a local estate. It measures about 35.5” tall by 13.5” wide, much larger than most garden figures commonly seen. In doing a little research on this item, I stumbled across a 19th century bronze statue by French sculptor Paul Dubois that is the exact same size and identical in almost every detail (see photo #3). I don’t think this statue is that old, but I think it is likely that in the 1960\'s or so a company made a mold from one of the bronze sculptures, changed a few details (the hat, some parts of the lute, etc.), and then reproduced it in painted ceramic. In any case it is a great design, hand painted and full of detail and character. The last owners must have displayed it indoors, as it has some felt glued to the bottom, but it would also make an excellent garden ornament. It is in very good condition for its age with some light overall surface wear and a few small chips, but no cracks, repairs, etc. Please see all photos. Shipped with great care.
