Up for sale is a rare piece of American religious and cultural history: the 1929 edition of the L.I.F.E. Bible College Yearbook (Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism) out of Los Angeles, California.
Founded in 1923 by the legendary, trailblazing media evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson ("Sister Aimee"), L.I.F.E. Bible College was the beating heart of the early Foursquare movement. Situated right next to the historic Angelus Temple in Echo Park, this institution trained the very first generations of pioneer ministers and global missionaries who built the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
In 1929, the school was only six years old. Sister Aimee was actively serving as the President of the college, a prominent faculty member, and a daily presence on campus.
This yearbook offers an incredible, first-hand window into the infancy of the pentecostal movement in the late 1920s. It features beautiful vintage photography of the campus, administration, faculty, and student body. Aimee Semple McPherson is featured prominently in the front pages as Founder and President. This specific copy was student-owned and includes names written on the inside cover, as well as vintage underlinings and small checkmarks next to various names throughout the pages.
Please review the photos carefully to evaluate the condition before purchasing. This book is a survived vintage piece with the following flaws noted for transparency:
Cover: Notable staining and cosmetic shelf-wear to the exterior binding.
Pages: small page tears, edge-yellowing/tanning appropriate for its 95+ year age.
Water Exposure: There is historic water damage/wrinkling evident on some pages. Crucially, there is absolutely NO mold and NO musty smell. The book is completely odor-free and dry.
Markings: As noted, there is pen/pencil writing on the inner cover and minor student annotations (underlining/checks) inside. No signatures from Sister Aimee herself.
Binding: Fully intact and complete; all pages remain legible and firmly attached. This is an exceptionally scarce artifact that rarely surfaces on the public market. It is a must-have for historians of the Foursquare Church, collectors of Pentecostal or Angelus Temple memorabilia, and fans of 1920s Americana.
