In ancient times, Japan's north-eastern Tohoku region was known as “Michinoku” – meaning “The end of the road” and “Oyako” means “Parent and child”.

Master Ishihara originally registered as a traditional Narugo Kokeshi Kijishi following the tradition after his grandfather Iwataro Onuma, but he found himself too restricted.
He fell ill for more than ten years and he used this time to study painting and when he recovered he began his transition to Sosaku Kokeshi.
Winning over 60 awards including The Prime Minister Prize.
His woodblock print jobs are also remarkable.
