About Ken Onion and SpeedSafe
Ken Onion is a Hawaii-based designer who changed production folders when Kershaw put his SpeedSafe assist into catalog knives. The torsion-bar assist is the patented system on the papers in this box — U.S. 6,145,202 and 5,802,722. Press the stud, the bar takes over, the blade comes out. That mechanism is why the Blur became a default American EDC in the 2000s.
Onion came up through custom work in Hawaii, then licensed designs to Kershaw / Kai USA in Tualatin. The Blur is the long-running production version of that collaboration: deep-carry clip, Trac-Tec / inlay scales, liner lock, and the assist. Later he designed for Work Sharp and other houses, but the USA Blur is the knife most people actually carried.
1670 is the Blur pattern. SG10 is this inlay variant — carbon-fiber / composite panels in a black frame — not the plain aluminum 1670BLK. NOV07 on the ricasso dates this one to a 2007 Tualatin run, still in the stars-and-stripes box with Kai USA inserts.
You are buying an unused USA-made Ken Onion Blur, not a current China/Taiwan Kershaw and not a handmade Onion custom.
