Real photo postcard. Steamship Rising Sun. The Rising Sun was originally called the Minnie M before the ownership of the House of David. The House of David used the steamer for logging purposes in the 1910’s. The ship was renamed the Riding Sun after the city in Ohio. Most House of David historians will tell you Fostoria was the beginning of the House of David. The Purnell family settled in Riding Sun before relocating to Fostoria. The town obviously had a greater significance in the history of the House of David than previously discussed. At the very least a sentimental significance to the Purnell’s. If the history is true of Purnell’s great treks during the 1880’ into the early 20th century, there seems to be a reason Rising Sun Ohio was a worthy namesake. Postcard was published for a historical society. Not sure of the exact printing date. Obscure postcard at that. I can say I’ve never seen this view. The only postcard I’ve seen of the Rising Sun was published by the colony and was not this view. Stains, toning and wear. Collectors markings on the back. Feel free to ask questions.
