Handmade Wooden Texas Historical Map Mike Sadaj 2010 Western Art Wall Decor 20\": $89.95
Texas ProjectIn the 1930s John Nance Garner proposed a division of the State of Texas into five separate states, the maximum number of states permitted under the law. Their names were to be “East Texas”, “West Texas”, “North Texas”, “South Texas”, and “Central Texas”. The arguments were Texas was too large, the various sections of the state have contradictory interests, the West and South deserved increased representation in the Congress, candidates for office have to face a great difficulty in carrying their program to all sections in an election campaign, and the people of the new states would be able to elect representatives more conversant with their needs. The Garner plan, like all others, came to naught. A proposed map of these new states with their boundaries delineated appears on the front of this artistic rendering.John Nance Garner was a member of the US House of Representatives 1903–33, Speaker of the House 1931–33, Vice-President 1933–41. The son of a Confederate cavalry trooper, Garner received only limited elementary education. Then, after attending Vanderbilt University for one term, he read law whilst employed in the office of Sims and Wright, Clarkesville, Texas. He was called to the bar in 1890 and began practicing law at Uvalde, Texas; at the same time he edited the weekly Uvalde Leader. This artistic rendering on the front was created, constructed and accomplished by Mike Sadaj for Christmas of 2010. The pallet or canvas that everything sits on is the finest Baltic Birch. The proposed five states “East Texas”, “West Texas”, “North Texas”, “South Texas”, and “Central Texas” are carved out of Cherry, Red Oak, Walnut, Northern Birch and White Oak. The cattle and/or horse brands starting from top left and continuing clockwise are the Running W, Long L of the 6666 Ranch brands for horses, the Long X, Triangle A, the Pitchfork and the XIT. The “TEXAS PROUD” letters were fashioned out of Walnut. And, finally, the Texas Longhorn Concho on the map designates the City of Austin, the capital of the State of Texas. This was the most difficult project I have ever undertaken because of the complexity, lack of proper tools, knowhow and lack of proper wood shop. This project has been going around and around in my head since at least 1967 when Jim Miller showed me the finished coffee table he made out of exotic woods. Fortunately, I moved to Indiana, met Tom Langebartels and he put me in touch with a man named Jim Dupler that had the knowhow and woodworking shop necessary to undertake this project. As I said it was the most difficult but rewarding project of its kind I have ever undertaken to do.Mike Sadaj Christmas 2010 I\'ve done my best to show the condition in pictures, but if you have any questions please reach out to me. Selling as is, any cleaning needed will be up to the buyer! I\'m happy to negotiate pricing on this and all my other listings ☺️✨️
