Hand-Painted Whirling Dervish on Antique Arabic Manuscript Leaf
I purchased this piece in a storage unit, so I do not know its history or provenance.
I am NOT an expert in Islamic manuscripts, Persian art, Ottoman art, or antiques. Everything below is my personal observation and opinion only, not a guarantee or professional authentication.
My observations:
* Appears to be a genuine old Arabic handwritten manuscript leaf.
* The manuscript contains Islamic religious text with references that appear to include Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah, and Ibn Abbas.
* In my opinion, the manuscript paper looks significantly older than the painting.
* The Whirling Dervish (Sufi) image appears to be hand-painted with what looks like gold leaf or gold-colored leaf over the manuscript page.
* In my opinion, the painting may have been added later to an older manuscript leaf, but I cannot confirm this.
* The decorative mosaic inlaid wooden frame appears to be handmade and is included with the artwork.
* I cannot determine the exact country of origin, age, artist, or authenticity of any individual component.
Condition
Please examine all photos carefully.
The artwork shows age, foxing, staining, edge wear, paper loss, and other signs of age and handling.
The frame has scratches, finish wear, and damage in several areas (see photos).
Nothing has been removed from the frame for inspection.
