A tall plaid collar rises behind the head of this turquoise wooden Santa, who holds a slender black staff in his right hand. Bright folk flowers on black bands run across his long robe.
Natural wood seasoned for several years comes first. Then the Santa is hand carved from solid natural wood and hand painted with water-based acrylics by a professional artist, who signs the base.

ABOUT THIS SANTA
The black bands of folk ornament are where the artist takes the longest. Flowers and curling leaves in white, red, blue and green run across the chest and around the hem, each outlined in gold dots. Columns of tiny gold diamonds climb the carved folds, which are painted darker in the hollows so the robe looks deep and heavy. Behind his head, the high standing collar is painted in a woven plaid. Each red mitten carries a gold dotted medallion, and the white beard is carved in deep waves. Dots, scrolls and plaid together take several days of work. The staff lifts out, which makes him easy to wrap and store. At 9 inches tall, he fits an entryway table, a shelf or the mantel. His long robe and tall staff give him the look of Ded Moroz, the Russian Father Frost. A turquoise folk art Santa with a high collar and a black staff.
