This was a working Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce publicity photograph — the kind Standley supplied to promote the Pikes Peak region to tourists.
WHO WAS H. L. STANDLEY?
Harry Landis Standley (July 28, 1881 – March 1951) is one of the most important photographers of the Pikes Peak region.
• Born Arkansas City, Kansas; family moved to Cripple Creek in 1893
• Photographing Colorado mountains from the 1900s through 1951
• Colorado Springs studio at 224 North Tejon Street from 1921
• Sold framed and hand-tinted mountain scenes to visitors for decades
• Among the first photographers to document all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks
• Charter member of the AdAmAn Club — the New Year’s Eve climb of Pikes Peak (first ascent December 31, 1922)
• Described in Pikes Peak Library District scholarship as “Colorado’s best press agent”
• Collections at Pikes Peak Library District (H. L. Standley Photograph Collection), Colorado College Tutt Library, Brigham Young University, and Denver Public Library

Circa 1925–1945, most reasonably marketed as c. 1930s. Standley died March 1951; this stamp style and Chamber file use belong to his mature Colorado Springs studio period.
