A remarkable and rare assemblage of four finely cast bronze shield appliqués from the Classical Greek world, likely serving as decorativephaleraeor possibly elements from ceremonial shields (including shield bosses or appliqués). Each piece reflects the refined metalwork traditions of ancient Greece, combining both functional design and symbolic ornamentation.
Two of the appliqués feature prominent central “boss” projections, while the remaining two present a smooth convex form, suggesting a purposeful variation within a unified decorative set. Each retains its original small loop ring on the reverse, indicating secure attachment—likely to leather, wood, or military equipment.
The surfaces display a superb, untouchedblue-green patina, beautifully preserved over millennia, enhancing their sculptural presence and historical depth.
Mounted on a custom display stand for presentation.
