The surface is cloisonné, enameled, raised relief artwork crafted in the Famille Rose motif. The piece was definitelyhand painted. The form is spherical with the matching lid. We tried to translate the Chinese characters and we think the jar is celebrating longevity and prosperity for a long time, if you can give us a better translation we would love to know. It measures 6-1/2\" tall with the lid on and the widest part of the body has a diameter of 5-3/4\". We have seen this form decorated with other artwork with the same Chinese characters around the jar and even the same characters on the bottom. This one is numbered with 17, we have see some numbered 15 and 12.
