These are LARGE vintage Chinese Fu Lu Shou statues. They are collectively called the Three Star Gods. Fu Lu Shou are abbreviations for… Fu = Fu Xing, and Lu = Lu Xing, and Shou = Shou Xing.
Fu Lu Shou statues are displayed in millions of homes, shops and offices around the world. They represent happiness and prosperity, status and authority and health and longevity. The figures are normally not worshipped so anyone may feel free to display these three Chinese auspicious Star Gods in their home to enhance good fortune, prosperity and health. Any search on Google or another site will bring a wealth of background information on these statues.
These statues have been intricately hand-carved from large pieces of bamboo. The detail is incredible and evident in the enclosed photos. Although there are millions of Fu Lu Shou figurines worldwide, made from a wide range of materials, and in all different sizes, these three LARGE BAMBOO statues are possibly unique. I have not seen another large set like this carved from bamboo wood anywhere in the world in my travels. There is a deep rich-red color patina on the statues.
These bamboo statues were acquired years ago from an old-line Chinese antiques dealer in Singapore Chinatown, who acquired them from a family who had them for more than 50 years and brought them from China to Singapore. It is unknown how old they actually are, but they have been well preserved.
The measurements of each statue are approximately 16 inches tall by about 5-1/2 inches wide (40.6 x 13.9cm). The different weights of each are: 3lbs&11oz, 3lbs&10oz, and 2lbs&14oz (1.64, 162, and 1.30 kg).
There are some minor cracks in the wood, and a hole in the base of one, all of which is expected in antique bamboo wood.
The statues have been carefully protected with a regular application of Beeswax wood polish which has helped to condition and protect the wood.
This set of three is a one-of-a kind opportunity to obtain a unique collectible.
