Yosemite Valley is a broad, rock-hewn trough, seven miles long and one-half to three-fourths of a mile wide. The level floor lies 4,000 feet above the sea, and the uplands on either side rise 3,000 to 5,000 feet. Over the sides of these tremendous walls fall the most beautiful waterfalls in the world: Vernal Fall, 317 feet, Yosemite Falls (including the cascades) 2,565 feet, Nevada Fall, 594 feet, and Bridalveil Fall, 620 feet.
