Section of genuine fossilmosasaur jaw containing three pointed mosasaur teeth. Both the teeth and jawbone are authentic fossil material and the specimen is not a replica or artificial composite.
Mosasaurs were powerful marine reptilesrelated to modern lizards and snakes. They inhabited the oceans during the LateCretaceous, with the largest species reaching over 10 metres in length andweighing several tonnes. Their streamlined bodies, strong jaws and sharpconical teeth made them formidable predators of fish, sharks, ammonites,turtles and other marine reptiles.
Condition and restoration: Repairs, stabilisation and restoration are common in Moroccanmosasaur jaw specimens because the fossil bone and teeth are often foundfragile and fragmented. Although the jaw and all three teeth are genuinemosasaur fossils, the teeth may not originally have belonged to the individualanimal represented by the jaw.
