Fast Willie Jackson #6 (Fitzgerald Periodicals, August 1977) — Scarce Bronze Age “Black Archie” Bikini Cover
Offered here is Fast Willie Jackson #6, cover-dated August 1977, published by Fitzgerald Periodicals, Inc. Cover price 30¢. PDC code 53160-9. 36 pages. Art credited to G. Lemoine (Gus Lemoine); publisher/editor Bertram A. Fitzgerald. Short-lived 7-issue series (Oct. 1976–Sept. 1977). 
This is the well-known bikini / bathing-suit cover — Dee Dee Wilson on the beach in a two-piece, speech balloon: “What’s the matter, dudes, never saw the sunshine before?” Cast and extras react on the sand. For a mid-1970s kids’ newsstand comic it was unusually bold and is now one of the most collected covers in the run. Series background
Fitzgerald Periodicals (same company behind the Golden Legacy Black-history comics) created Fast Willie Jackson as a teen-humor book with an almost entirely Black cast in the fictional city of Mo City, U.S.A. It is frequently described as the “Black Archie”: Willie as the easy-going lead, Dee Dee as the knockout, Jo-Jo, Frankie Johnson, militant Jabar, strongman Hannibal, Latino shopkeeper José Martinez, and Officer Flagg (“The Man”). Archie-style cartooning with 1970s slang, fashion, and a light Blaxploitation flavor. Only seven issues were published; complete runs and individual mid-to-high-grade copies are scarce.
