Kokeshi artisan:Sui-gai Sato (1920–) was a renowned artist of original kokeshi dolls (real name: Teihachi) from Gunma Prefecture. After studying Japanese painting under Komuro Suion, he began creating original kokeshi dolls around 1949 (Showa 24). He received numerous awards, including the Prime Minister’s Award, and produced many works featuring unique color patterns and a beautiful Japanese aesthetic at his workshop, “Suigetsu.”
