Egyptian Scarab beetle amulet placed (not attached) on top irregular stone matrix. Beetle is blue gray color stoned earthenware. Matrix is natural slate or mudstone. There appears to be gold flecks on the stone. I did the acetone test with the gold not dissolving. Not saying it is gold, just that it might be, but I am not a gemologist or archeologist.
Underside of beetle has three markings.1st Triangle translates to \"to give\" or given.Middle Bar/line phonetic reed leaf translates eternal , firm established.Leg Triangle is stylized (Ankh) life or (Neb) Lord sign.Three markings translates \"Given Life Eternally or Established Life.
The scarab is a vintage 20th century Egyptian tourist piece. 3 1/2 in x 3 1/2 in. I am not so sure about the matrix. The slate piece has what it might be gold specks. At any rate its still an interesting conversation piece.
