Early 1900s Harburg Wilhelmsburg Germany Sand Street Sparkasse Postcard For Sale

This vintage postcard presents a finely detailed street scene from Harburg-Wilhelmsburg, Germany, published by Kunstverlag P. W. Hirsch of Hamburg 6, with photography credited to Wilh. Heinemann. The view, titled Sand mit Sparkasse, captures the urban character of the early 20th century, dominated by the imposing architecture of the Stadtsparkasse building, a prominent municipal savings bank that signifies the era\'s civic development and economic confidence. The commercial vitality of the street is further evidenced by the storefronts for J. WEINTHAL and a business advertising Fabrik Verkauf Wurzburg, anchoring the scene in its specific commercial geography. Period-accurate elements such as horse-drawn carts and the attire of the figures populate the thoroughfare, providing a tangible connection to the daily life and transportation methods of the time. The card\'s verso, while bearing the typical publisher imprint and format for correspondence, shows only minor age-related discoloration and marks, lacking any cancellation marks or a penned message, which positions it as an unused view card primarily intended for collection or later dispatch. This lithographic print serves as a valuable topographical record of the Harburg-Wilhelmsburg municipality prior to its full integration into the city of Hamburg, offering a glimpse into the pre-war German streetscape and its architectural vernacular.
