Mint condition W Britain’s original EXTREMELY RARE Vintage Zoo Animal store display sign with backing still intact never popped to use a stand with original U.K. stamp on far right back corner. Now it’s time to pass on to another collector to be its care taker. Won at sale several years ago from Red Lancers.
This is an "EXTREMELY RARE Shop Display Sign" for Britains Zoo models, typically made of metal with a cardboard backing.
Manufacturer: The sign advertises models by W. Britain, a British toy company founded by William Britain Jr. in 1893, known for revolutionizing toy soldier production with hollow-casting in lead.
"Britains Zoo" Series: Also known as the "Britains Zoological series," these accurately modeled and painted lead zoo animals, along with accessories like enclosures and staff figures, were a successful spin-off from Britains' famous toy soldiers and first appeared between the World Wars.
Collectibility: Vintage Britains Zoo models and promotional items like this sign are highly sought after by collectors due to their historical significance and detailed craftsmanship, particularly the earlier lead-based models and rare pieces.
