Door of Hope Christian Missionary Tract Shanghai China Taiwan 1955 Life of Joy:
$23.00

The Door of Hope Mission was a Christian mission in Shanghai in the early to mid 1950s whose goal was to provide employment for destitute women, primarily through the manufacture and sale of the "Door of Hope" dolls, depicting Chinese dress and accessories of the time.
Little is known today about this mission, and, in fact, numerous resources say the mission was located only in China, with no US presence. And yet, this tract clearly demonstrates otherwise, since the "Home office" it lists had an Orlando, FL address. The small tract, titled "The Secret of A Life of Joy, unfolds to a 3"x 6" 3-panel, 6-page-size brochure. (Each page is 2" x 3".) The brochure includes a title page (front) an identification page (back) with a prayer and address of the mission's home office in Orlando FL. On the inside is a first-person account of a "conversation with God." Hand written on the ID page is also a PO Box Number in Taipei, Taiwan. This brochure belonged to my mother, who lived in Taipei in the early 50s, and was found in her Bible upon her death. As a very Christian woman, presumably she visited the mission, or one of its representatives visited and spoke with my mother's church or Sunday School class. I do not know whether the PO box handwritten onto the tract was my mother's mailing address in Taiwan, or a local office of Door of Hope Mission The tract is in very good condition. It's yellowed with age, there is some fragility at the edges of the fold lines, but no rips, tears, writing, or damage.
