Dickens and Liverpool 1945 Illustrated Pamphlet Third Ed Revised Thomas N Philip:
$20.62

Dickens and Liverpool. Liverpool: Philip, Son & Nephew Ltd., 7 Whitechapel, Liverpool 1, 1945. Third Edition, Revised. Original illustrated pamphlet in publisher’s green paper wrappers, priced one shilling on issue. Written by Thomas N. Philip, past president of the Liverpool Branch of the Dickens Fellowship.

This illustrated booklet examines Charles Dickens’s personal, professional, and literary connections with Liverpool, beginning with his first visit in 1838 and continuing through later journeys, including his departure for America in 1842 aboard the Cunard steamship Britannia. Drawing on correspondence, contemporary accounts, and Dickens Fellowship research, Philip documents Liverpool’s role in Dickens’s movements, friendships, and public life beyond London.

The text is supported by period illustrations, including a photographic portrait of Dickens at work and an engraved maritime scene depicting the Britannia, reinforcing the biographical narrative and the Fellowship’s mid-20th-century interest in regional Dickens history.

Condition:
