Detective Comics #388 DC 1969 Classic Joker Cover Batman Batgirl Silver Age 15c For Sale

'Batman and Robin! The Joker is giving you the honor of being the first men killed on the moon!' Nothing on a 1969 newsstand said Silver Age louder than that. DETECTIVE COMICS #388 (DC, June 1969, 15 cents) - one of the great JOKER COVERS of the era, the Clown Prince grinning across a lunar landscape with Batman and Robin scrambling below, plus a Batgirl backup feature under the Batman and Batgirl banner. Cover by Irv Novick, Joker story written by John Broome, and this is from the short window where the Joker had drifted off the covers for years and came roaring back. Condition, told straight: this is a raw, ungraded Silver Age book photographed from the front - the colors are strong and the cover is complete with square corners that show only light blunting, light spine wear and no tears or writing visible. It presents in the VG/FN to FN range; grade it yourself from the photos and ask for more. Sold raw and priced as a mid-grade copy; a CBCS 8.5 of this issue sold for $279 and raw mid-grades trade $30-$70, so this is priced for the cover, not for a slab. From a single long-held collection. Please judge from the photos. Ships bagged and boarded in a rigid mailer with tracking. Smoke-free home.
