Datolite is a characteristic mineral of Michigan's Keweenaw copper deposits, where it formed within amygdules and cavities associated with the native copper mineralization. Nodular datolite from the district is particularly collectible for its variety of colors, inclusions and mine-specific occurrences. The dark matrix surrounding these pieces provides a strong contrast with the pale datolite visible along broken and exposed surfaces.
The specimens retain their original collection identification from the Delaware Mine and catalog number 513, preserving specific mine provenance within the historic Keweenaw copper district.
