For the Dr. Grabow collector, one of the hardest to find lines by the brand. - P
*Not to be confused with the Van Roy brand’s Bard, this is a different pipe.
Also, I’ve got a new phone and the auto correction is being difficult so photo warmth may differ. I need to figure that setting out. No filters ever used. :)
I was a serious Dr. Grabow collector for many years, having hundreds in my collection and over a 1,000 pass through. The Bard is among the rarest of any lines out there. I’ve only ever had 4 and I searched a couple times a week. This pipe is also UNSMOKED! These were among my rarest pipes in my own collection and as I’ve gotten down to my last handful, I found this one hidden in a bubble wrap envelope for protection. It’s definitely my last one. They used the Pre-Smoked machine that mechanically smoked the bowl for a period enough for a gentle cake to form.
You won’t see this shape anywhere else as far as I can tell. I’ve not seen it in any of the vintage charts either. There isn’t much info on this series other than likely made in the 1960-1970’s. It’s a petit size, smaller bowl, longer stem. Lightweight and a comfortable smoker.
This unsmoked Squat Rhodesian is a unique shape that I’ve only seen on the Bard line and only one 1 other pipe, that I myself owned. I thought that was the last Bard but I found one more in my private collection. After 8 years of regular searching for this line, I only ever found 4.
I’ve had 1,000 Dr. Grabow come and go. The article on Pipedia even states that the writer has never seen one of these.
The pipe is unsmoked and sports a dual finish with smooth above the bead-line and a gentle rustication I don’t recall seeing, for
the bottom half. It features a push-in stem so it has a yellow spade insert with a thin metal band and a lightly curved ebonite stem.
The only blemish I’ve noticed is the Grabow stamping wasn’t fully stamped in I’m guessing. It shouldn’t be wear as it’s not been used. Aside from that, all looks great for a well aged pipe.
It’s a smaller bowl that will give a decent shorter smoke with good length stem yet has a standard length for a Dr. Grabow and pipes of this period.
The stem has been hand polished for carefully, to remove any oxidation. It’s now a deep, shiny black and super smooth.
The pipe was carefully buffed with a bit of super fine White Diamond to remove any oils and old wax and help the original stain pop again. I applied a fresh coat of carnauba wax and hand buffed it. Obsidian stem oil was applied as well to slow down future
oxidation. It’s fully ready to smoke or display in your collection. - Peter
Review all photos and dimensions carefully prior to purchasing. I take pride in my pipes and all are ready to smoke. - P

I think of my shop like a nice Boutique store. You will not receive a pipe haphazardly wrapped in newspaper and a re-used box or envelope. I’ve put countless hours into refining as much as I can for the best experience possible. - Peter

At a minimum, I do everything possible to make sure the pipe is at its best and packaged well. All pipes are carefully inspected, cleaned, gently buffed, waxed with Carnauba and the stems are hand polished and oiled as needed. For a decade, I’ve put all I have into these pipes, packaging and more. I really enjoy it and my fellow hobbyists.
BY PURCHASING A TOBACCO PIPE OR RELATED ITEMS FROM THIS STORE, YOU ATTEST / AFFIRM YOU ARE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD.
I do not have the time to reply to messages asking for deals. If I have room to move, I’ll list the pipe as “Or Best Offer.” Prices are firm. Please consider the large seller fees, taxes and equipment investments. If I don’t reply, no offense intended. It’s just time consuming to explain all this in each message.
