Allen Walker, is a young Exorcist recruited by the Black Order to fight the Millennium Earl and his army of demonic beings known as Akuma, using mysterious weapons called Innocence. Across the first 24 volumes, Allen joins forces with Lenalee Lee, Kanda Yuu, Lavi, Bookman, and other Exorcists as they search for scattered Innocence and battle the Earl and the powerful Noah Family. Their missions take them from haunted villages and cursed cities to the Black Order's headquarters and eventually into the Noah's Ark, where Allen discovers that the war is far more complicated than a simple battle between good and evil. The group encounters tragic figures such as Miranda Lotto and Arystar Krory, confronts the terrifying Noahs, and learns increasingly disturbing secrets about the Earl, the Noah Clan, and the origin of the war. After the Order suffers devastating losses, Allen becomes increasingly connected to the mysterious Fourteenth Noah, Nea D. Campbell, whose consciousness exists within him and threatens to take over his body. The story then shifts toward Allen's struggle to protect his identity while uncovering the truth behind Nea, the Earl, and his own past. Following the Third Exorcist crisis and the collapse of his relationship with the Black Order, Allen goes into hiding with Johnny and eventually reunites with Kanda, while the Noahs, the Order, and the mysterious Innocence being Apocryphos all pursue him for their own reasons.
