"He graduated from Carthage High School in 1936 and went on to attend Carthage College. He left after his freshman year after signing as a pitcher with the Jonesboro White Sox, a farm team for the Chicago White Sox, where he met with great success. On March 7, 1943, Wade was united in marriage to Helen Main in Carthage. On March 13, 1942, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam wars. He retired on Feb. 1, 1977, as a Sergeant Major/Master Gunnery Sergeant. During his service time he earned the Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense and Vietnam Campaign Medals. Wade then worked as a scheduler and planner at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Burlington, Iowa, retiring from there in 1981. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage."
