Chicago Bears Rare Orig. South Shore Line Stations Sign-Heavy Aluminum Braille For Sale

Up for sale is a 100% authentic, original South Shore Line Stations Map sign. This is not a cheap reproduction, a thin plastic \"bus-style\" map, or a rolled-up poster. This is a heavy-duty, station-grade aluminum sign designed to withstand the elements at outdoor train platforms.

Whether you’re looking to anchor the decor in a local business along the line or you want a one-of-a-kind centerpiece for your home, garage, or \'man cave,\' this sign delivers. It’s a rare chance to own a physical piece of the route that connects Chicago to Northwest Indiana.

With the Chicago Bears officially moving forward with their stadium project in Hammond, Indiana, this rare, retired South Shore Line station platform map is the ultimate piece of Northwest Indiana transit history. It prominently features the Hammond Gateway corridor—the exact line designed to connect Chicago to the new stadium site near Wolf Lake.

The Story:

This sign is a true collector\'s piece with a unique history. It was officially retired from service due to a Braille error in one section of the map. Because of this manufacturing mistake, the signs had to be pulled and replaced, making them incredibly rare. To my knowledge, only three of these exist in private hands: one recently sold at a high-end sale, I have this one, and one other collector owns the third.

Physical Details:

Material: Heavy-gauge industrial aluminum.

Features: Includes tactile Braille lettering and raised graphics.

Condition: Excellent \"retired\" condition. It shows the durability expected of a real transit sign. (Please see photos for exact dimensions and mounting hole placement).

Rarity: Unlike the small, thin plastic versions often listed for $800+, this is the large-scale, heavy-duty original that hung at the actual stations.

This is a \"holy grail\" piece for enthusiasts of Railroadiana, Chicago transit history, or Indiana history. It’s a one-of-a-kind conversation starter that would look incredible in a barn, garage, or office.
