British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph
1812 Mezzotint Image of Charles Stanley, Son to James, Earl of Derby
Engraved by R. Dunkarton from portrait by van Dyck
Charles Stanley, 8th Earl of Derby (19 January 1628 – 21December 1672) was an English nobleman and politician. He was the only son ofJames Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby and Charlotte de La Trémouille. As Lord Strange, he took little part in the English Civil War. In France at the time of his father\'s condemnation in 1651, he petitioned unsuccessfully for the latter\'s life. After succeeding to the Earldom, he lived quietly at offerston Hall, Cheshire, emerging to support Booth\'s unsuccessful rising in 1659. Although condemned for so doing, he was restored the following year and the family\'s lands in the Isle of Man were returned to him.
He served as mayor of Liverpool, between 1666 and 1667
(The \"Obit 1651\" note on the portrait is incorrect and most likely was referring to James Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby [1607-1651]).

Mezzotint is a printmaking process of the intaglio family, technically a drypoint method. It was the first tonal method to be used, enabling half-tones to be produced without using line- or dot-based techniqueslike hatching, cross-hatching or stipple. Mezzotint achieves tonality byroughening the plate with thousands of little dots made by a metal tool withsmall teeth, called a \"rocker.\" In printing, the tiny pits in theplate hold the ink when the face of the plate is wiped clean. A high level ofquality and richness in the print can be achieved.

I will send a combined invoice reflecting your savings. The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
