Rare 1888 Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) "Rooster on Nest" covered candy dish tureen, manufactured by the historic Challinor, Taylor & Co. of Tarentum, Pennsylvania. Features an intricately detailed lid depicting a rooster with distinct feathers, head, wattle, and comb. The base showcases an elegant pressed glass basketweave pattern rimmed with a 3/4-inch braided ribbon design featuring its original cold-painted gold gilt decoration. Design: Rooster on Nest Covered Dish Pattern: Basketweave with Braided Ribbon Edge Color/Finish: Heavy Clear Glass with Cold Paint Gold Gilt Accent Length: 8 1/2 inches Depth: 5 3/4 inches Height: 6 1/4 inches Weight: 2 lbs 8 oz (Item only) Condition Note: Missing its original removable glass bead eyes (the small socket holes are clean and intact, ready for replacements if desired). Otherwise in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks. Features authentic period-correct manufacturing irregularities including random embedded air bubbles and a faint straw mark on the inside bottom base. Ever-so-slight flea bites on the hidden inner rim of the base (not visible when lid is seated). Gold paint shows beautiful, authentic age-related wear.
