Condition Notes
New in box. Removed only for photographs. Factory edge. No cracks in the bone. Amber dye is darker through the jig and a little lighter at the bolster ends — that is how these 2002 peach-seed scales often look, not carry wear. Green Case box is intact with the original 00042 / 6318 SS / AMBER / MDBN PS label and the dated M2 07/24/02 stamp. Orange Fisher LB dealer sticker ($35.29) is still on the end. Box shows light storage rub at the corners. Judge from the pictures.
Description & History
W.R. Case & Sons has been making pocket knives in Bradford, Pennsylvania since 1889. The stockman — clip, sheepsfoot, and spey on one frame — has been a Case catalog constant for most of that time. Pattern 18 is the medium stockman: about 3-5/8\" closed, small enough for a pocket, large enough to work.
6318 SS is the jigged-bone stainless version. Case item 00042 is the Amber Bone peach-seed jig run that is still in the line today. What you have here is an early-2000s piece of that same pattern, not current production. The box is dated July 24, 2002. The tang is the 2000–2009 Case XX stamp (long-tail C with the X-and-dot code). Secondary tang reads USA 6318 SS.
Amber Bone with the peach-seed jig is one of Case’s signature looks from this period — honey bone with a deep dark jig, brass pins, and the oval shield. Tru-Sharp is Case’s high-carbon stainless. It takes an edge and resists rust better than the CV carbon knives, which is why a lot of buyers wanted SS on a stockman they might actually carry.
This example remains unused in the original green box with the factory date code and the old dealer price sticker still on it.
