California State Route 60 highway marker.
Up for sale today is this California State Route 60 sign. Made to the exact 1964 standards from when California switched from white miner's spade route markers to green ones. An updated version of this shield is still in use along the highways of California to the present day.
State Route 60 is the famous (or perhaps infamous) Pomona Freeway linking Los Angeles through Pomona to Riverside. It originated as part of US Route 60, which ran from L.A. clear to Virginia Beach on the East Coast. (If you'd like one of the old California US 60 markers, see my other listings!) California reorganized its highway system in 1964 to eliminate most of its US routes, many of which overlapped one another and were redundant to the newly-designated Interstate highways being constructed across the state. The segment of US 60 between L.A. and Riverside was, however, independently useful, so it was converted to a state route with the same number.
An original of these is most likely to be found in active service along Route 60. The California Highway Patrol knows where they are supposed to be—on their posts, not in the trunk of your car. So here's your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without chancing legal trouble.
The sign is 11 by 12 inches, and weighs 3 lb. 0 oz.

No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection.
