California desert scene showing spring wildflowers blooming in the foreground with snow covered mountains in the distance.Published by H.S. Crocker Co., Inc., Anaheim
Photographer credit to Josef MuenchMirro-Krome cardNumber FS-1307Distributed by Ferris H. Scott of Santa Ana, CaliforniaThe postcard captures the desert\'s spring transformation when winter rains bring dormant wildflower seeds to life. The foreground features yellow desert dandelions (Malacothrix), flowering Spanish bayonet yucca, and brittlebush (Encelia farinosa), common desert wildflowers that bloom between February and May.
The snow capped peaks visible in the distance are likely Mount San Gorgonio or Mount San Jacinto, Southern California\'s highest mountains, which remain snow covered well into spring.Josef Muench was a German-born photographer who immigrated to America and settled in Santa Barbara. Primarily known for his evocative landscapes of the American Southwest, his images appeared in countless books, posters, and most notably Arizona Highways magazine.
One of his photographs was selected for inclusion on the Voyager I and II spacecrafts.
