In this sturdy and picturesque old cabin James W. Marshall lived for many years. It is located on the side of a prominent and heavily timbered foothill that rises just back of town. On the summit of this hill is Marshall\'s grave over which has been erected an impressive monument to his memory. It was Marshall\'s discovery of gold (Jan. 24 1848) in the tailrace of the sawmill he was building for Capt. John W. Sutter on the south fork of the American River that changed the entire course of California history. Photo-color by Merle Parter. Published by Round Pictures Colton Calif. AC-124 2102
