Fort Magruder, Williamsburg, VA was the central redoubt for the Confederate defense of Williamsburg in 1862, built by JEB Magruder;s command. After the Federal Forces captured the massive earthen fort in May , 1862 it was occupied by Federal troops. In 1864 The Fort was ordered to be rebuilt and Morris A. Kraszynsky, of the 11th Connecticut, was assigned as Engineering Officer in charge. The fort was located near Colonial Williamsburg ad today only a portion of the earthen redoubt remains. An Original Civil War Special Order issued April 16, 1864 by Colonel Robert M West, to Lt Colonel Moegilng, 11th Connecticut assigning Lt Morris A. Kraszynsky, of the 11th f Connecticut to serve as engineering officer and superintendent of the re-construction of the Fort. 1p 8 x 11\" ink on dark lined pape. Edge wear, Overall VG. Comes with service info. General Robert Mayhew West srved with the 1st Pennsylvania Artillery and the 5th Pennsylvania Cavalry, was a brevet brigadier general for his actions at Five Forks, Virginia, and postwar was assigned to the 7th US Cavalry.Morris A. Kraszynsky, a native of Poland rose through the ranks to become a commissioned officer. Both he and Lt Colonel William Moegling of Danbury, CT were wounded when the notable 11th Connecticut assaulted the Stone Bridge at the Battle Antietam, Maryland- the Lt survived but the LT Colonel died of disease in late 1864. The order comes from the papers of Captain Erastus Blackmar, 11th CT who postwar served as Commander of the 11th CT Veteran\'s Association at Woodstock, CT. .
