Stone Mountain, Virginia included a spur namedPenningtion Gap near the town of Pennington, Lee County, Virginia, named for Edward Pennington a notable early settler. An Original Virginia Land Grant dated October 20th, 1837 issued to Edward Pennington (son of the Revolutionary War notable and his namesake ) a grant of 70 acres of land with a physical description of the Powell's River, Lee County land "near the end of a spur of the Stone Mountain". The Land Grant is issued and signed by Virginia Governor David Campbell and bears an affixed seal of the State of Virginia. The Land Grant is approx 14 x 11" on heavy vellum . The Grant is folded with age stains, minor edge wear, and Overall VG Condition with a nice signature by Governor Campbell. The land grant is now part of the beautiful and undeveloped Stone Mountain Wilderness Area which includes the Powell River. The grant comes w bio info for Governor Campbell, a veteran officer in the War of 1812.
